In our last blog, we took a look at why remote work makes employees happy. We noted that it saves them a ton of time, makes their jobs more fun and offers them fewer distractions. Remote work, however, isn’t all about making employees happy. Needless to say, it’s great for business owners too! The boss needs to be just as satisfied with his/her professional life and accomplishments as well, right?

In today’s blog, we’ll investigate why remote work makes employers happy.

It makes workers more productive.

You may assume that allowing employees to work from home may encourage them to slack off. After all, when one is wearing his/her PJs, he/she doesn’t usually feel like working, right? Well, statistics say otherwise. Apparently, the ease of mind that comes with not having to go into work every day helps people to perform their jobs better.

As Laurel Farrer reports on Forbes.com, “teleworkers are an average of 35-40% more productive than their office counterparts, and have measured an output increase of at least 4.4%.” She also reveals that “with stronger autonomy via location independence, workers produce results with 40% fewer quality defects.”

It promotes greater work/life balance.

As mentioned, employees aren’t the only ones benefitting from remote work. The boss is generally the person with the most weight on his/her shoulders. As a result, attaining a greater balance between one’s work and one’s personal life is a vital way to not burn out. As Asya Stamenova affirms on Lumapps.com, the ability to work remotely offers a better work/life balance.

“Working away from the office can make you feel in control of your life and give you more time to plan both work and home tasks,” she writes, “This gives a sense of achievement and makes employees more productive.” Stamenova notes that remote work enables people to avoid both rush hour traffic and having to carry files or a laptop. As well, you can take a break whenever you like and enjoy more family time at home.

It helps to generate greater profits.

Which business owner doesn’t like the sound of that? Making more money is the name of the game no matter which industry you are a part of. So, just how much more money can you make when you offer remote work as an option to employees? Is it true that having your employees work from home can make your business more profitable?

According to Farrer, it is! She notes that employers who enable their employees to perform remote work end up both saving money and earning higher profits. “Organizations save an average of $11,000 per year per part-time telecommuter, or 21% higher profitability,” she writes.
